My counselling work started in the Netherlands more then 35 years ago. Currently I am working as a supervisor and have been for 13 years in the UK. I do love to support my supervisees to build their confidence and their self-belief. I am trained in gestalt, embodiment and person centred therapy. I integrate working creatively through different media’s, mindfulness, yoga and the body. My special interest is IFS, inner child work and neuroscience.
I have a practice for counselling adults, couples, groups and children, and I am a supervisor for counsellors working with sexual violence and bereavement. I enjoy working with trainees and in group supervision for Choose. I am here to help you navigate your placement and grow your potential as a counselling therapist.

Jennifer Lumsden-Gordon
I have been qualified and worked as a counsellor since 2002 and as a qualified Clinical Supervisor since 2011. I worked at Black Country Women’s Aid (BCWA) for 20 years (2004 – 2024) as Therapeutic Lead but also undertook other roles to include that of Service Manager for the Domestic Abuse Service, The Sexual Violence and Abuse Service and Lead Trainer. I now have my own private practice, to include counselling, clinical supervision and training. I take an Integrative approach to my counselling work, underpinned by a Person-Centred approach, but have a solid understanding of the other main modalities to include Psychodynamic, Transactional Analysis and CBT. My supervision qualification was that of the Cyclical Model (Page and Wosket) but over time my practice has evolved to take a more relational approach (Shoet). As Therapeutic Lead at BCWA I was responsible for recruiting, training, supporting, and supervising the counselling placements. I have always found supporting students through their learning , development and the transition from classroom to therapy room very rewarding.

I am a qualified person-centred counsellor and supervisor. I have been in private practice since 2014 and have been a supervisor since 2018. I supervise both trainee and qualified counsellors in group settings as well as one to one. I have experience delivering supervision in person and remotely. Currently I hold supervision roles within several counselling agencies.
My approach to supervision is collaborative and exploratory focusing on the relationship and dynamics of the group. Working safely and ethically I encourage supervisees to explore current client work and their personal process. I also offer supervision through the lens of The Seven Eyed Supervision Model.

Margaret Birrell
I qualified as a Counsellor in 2002, and as a Supervisor in 2009 and have now worked within this Profession for approx. 23 years. I became Accredited with BACP as a Supervisor of Groups, since 2012. Over the past 2 years, I have enjoyed working on behalf of choosetherapy.co.uk (as a Contract Supervisor of groups), supporting groups of Trainee Counsellors on their journey through this placement experience with their first Clients
My work experience has been broad, varied and very interesting; I have worked extensively within the Addictions counselling field, also in Private Practice accepting referrals from EAP organisations and private Clients, young people, adults, individuals and couples. For a 10 year period I worked within NHS settings in Primary Care Counselling, Supervision, and delivery of CBT groups. I’ve worked contractually within Voluntary/Charity Counselling Service, supervising groups of Counsellors, both Trainee’s and qualified, and supported a Project for Detainee’s in an Immigration Detainee Centre. I’ve also contracted to provide Supervision within REHAB setting, also a Therapeutic Community, as well as Women’s Hospice Settings. These work settings have brought me a valuable experience and ongoing training in working with severe anxiety, trauma, ptsd, depression, and severe mental health presentations and personality disorders.
My approach in Supervision is based on a broad base or mix of approaches such as Rogerian, Humanistic, Transactional Analysis (T.A.), CBT, BSF, Systemic, Clarkson. Whilst holding in mind a psychodynamic awareness of the therapeutic relationship between the Counsellor and the Client, using this to support the Supervisee’s insight into the Client, the underlying process of the therapeutic alliance, and Client’s presenting issues.
I see the supervision group as a rich environment for exchanged different perspectives, and yet also a focused space where each supervisee can apply their chosen training modality in skills and practice. I also see this supervision space as a safe space, where supervisee’s can develop their skills and sense of self as a Supervisee, in the safe holding of the supervision container, in line with BACP Ethical Framework.

Darren Flint
Hello, I’m Darren (any pronouns). I hold several of the supervision groups for Choose Therapy, as well as supporting with clinical oversight of the service. My background is as an Integrative Humanistic counsellor. I tend to work with trans* and non-binary clients, especially at the intersectionality of neurodiversity and chronic illness – these are identities and experiences that I also share myself. I have a background in the charity sector, having designed and run a low-cost counselling service similar to Choose Therapy’s. This gives me a deep understanding of the trainee counsellor experience, and I genuinely enjoy supporting colleagues through these vital stages in your professional development. My approach to supervision is collaborative and collegiate, I seek to actively reduce the hierarchies that we encounter through our roles.
