Toby is a Doctoral Trainee in Counselling Psychology with substantial experience working in psychological and mental health settings, currently training to become a Counselling Psychologist. His therapeutic work is grounded in the person-centred, humanistic approach, which emphasises creating a safe, collaborative and non-judgemental space where clients can explore their thoughts, feelings and experiences at their own pace. Toby works in a relational, curious and exploratory way, taking a collaborative approach and valuing transparency about the therapeutic process and how the work unfolds. While his current practice is primarily person-centred, he also has CBT-informed experience, allowing him to draw on different perspectives where it may be helpful.
Prior to his doctoral training, Toby worked across a range of mental health settings, including roles in the NHS, as an Assistant Psychologist, Therapist Assistant and Health and Wellbeing Coach, delivering both 1:1 and group interventions. Through this career he has supported individuals experiencing a wide range of psychological difficulties.
Toby has extensive experience supporting neurodivergent individuals with autism and/or ADHD, as well as individuals experiencing OCD. This understanding has developed through professional work and lived experience, shaping a strong appreciation for different ways of thinking, processing and relating to the world. His background in psychology and anthropology also informs his interest in how personal experiences, relationships and cultural context influence wellbeing.
As a trainee counselling psychologist, Toby is a committed reflective practitioner, adhering to the ethical frameworks and professional guidelines of the British Psychological Society and the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC).
