Hi, I’m Giorgia. I am a trainee therapist working towards becoming an accredited counsellor. I am studying for an MSc in Therapeutic Counselling at the University of Greenwich, a BACP-accredited course, and I hold a BACP student membership. My approach is integrative, meaning I draw from different therapeutic models depending on what feels most helpful for you. I am influenced by psychodynamic and person-centred approaches; this means I’m interested in how past experiences may shape your present, while also offering a safe, empathetic space to explore what’s happening for you now. For me, the relationship between therapist and client is at the heart of the work. I believe change happens when you feel truly seen, heard, and supported, without judgment. As an immigrant, I developed an understanding of how overwhelming life transitions can be. This shapes the way I work and helps me connect with people navigating change or feeling out of place. I offer sessions in English and Italian and welcome clients from all backgrounds and walks of life.

James Murphy

James Murphy

AnxietyCultural identity & belonging
We can all find life to be extremely challenging, and we should always have the option to move through these moments with support and empathy. James aims to create a safe space for all clients, empowering them to express themselves without fear of judgement. He practices integrative counselling; primarily this starts with the person-centered model, allowing the client to have control in expressing their thoughts and feelings openly and safely. This is supported by Psychoanalysis to better understand how experiences from the past might be affecting the present. Depending on the client’s needs, CBT may be used to reflect on patterns of behaviour and challenge automatic thoughts, and transactional analysis to explore relationships and patterns of relating. James’s intention is to always see the world through the client’s perspective, and establish a trusting working relationship to explore challenging feelings and enact positive change. With a background in publishing and education, James has experience of establishing deep and trusting professional relationships to bring out the best version of themselves. James is training for his Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling (awarded by CPCAB and BACP-accredited), and he’s grateful to be able to offer his professional support to new clients at this stage of his study. He is a student member of the BACP.

Kelly Emmerson

Hi, I’m Kelly. I am a warm and supportive trainee counsellor who is passionate about helping clients to navigate life’s challenges and to live personally meaningful lives. Our sessions will provide you with a safe, non-judgmental and confidential space to explore your life experience, what matters to you, and what is causing you pain. I will meet you where you are with empathy, acceptance and curiosity and support you in examining your experience and finding your own way. My approach is integrative, which enables me to draw on a variety of theories and approaches to tailor the therapy based on what is helpful and meaningful to you. The heart of my approach is person-centred, which is non-directive and focused on helping you access your own unique answers and potential for growth. I integrate other modalities such as psychodynamic theory, which considers how past experiences may be affecting your feelings and experiences in the present, as well as humanistic, mindfulness and body-awareness approaches, honouring the interconnected nature of mind, body, heart and spirit. I am a registered student member of the BACP and currently working towards my MA in Integrative Psychotherapy and Counselling. I have a business career background and understand the pressures of work and modern everyday living.

Troy is a UKCP-registered psychotherapist currently studying Psychodynamic Practice at the University of Oxford. He also holds an MA in Psychoanalytic Studies and a Certificate in Integrative Counselling. He’s interested in helping clients find meaning in their lives by strengthening their unique sense of self, emboldening them to break away from conformity, assert their own identities, and embrace authentic living.Troy uses his training in psychoanalysis to uncover unconscious issues that might be holding clients back. Often, these issues relate to childhood relationships, which he creates space to unpack. He maintains a confidential therapeutic environment, granting clients unconditional freedom to express who they are, explore who they were, and establish who they want to be.Having spent 10 years in the arts, Troy enjoys incorporating creativity into his practice and believes passionately in nurturing his clients’ will to create.Interested in existentialism, he is always keen to apply philosophical ideas to his work with clients where appropriate.Troy is particularly interested in working with those for whom life has started to feel stale, who struggle to see signs of improvement, or perhaps even dislike who they’ve become. His approach to confronting these problems is compassionate, curious and collaborative. He acts as an active partner to his clients, aiding them in the construction of a compelling future vision.Ultimately, Troy’s goal is to help people move beyond self-limiting patterns, supporting them to overcome corrosive beliefs, low confidence and resentment, and discover who they really are.

Philippe Pieters

I’m Philippe, an integrative psychodynamic counsellor in my last year of training. This means that I do my best to offer a safe space where things can be discussed freely and without any judgment whatsoever. Then through developing a safe therapeutic relationship, we can help bring out some of the maladaptive patterns we developed in our life. These patterns that no longer serve us in the present often unconsciously come in the way of our relationships, including the relationship to ourselves. Uncovering them brings self-awareness that helps us let go of them, and eventually live a happier, more balanced and fulfilling life. I believe we can facilitate change by understanding ourselves more. And since you are brave enough to take on the challenge of counselling, you are already on the right track. It’s important for me to understand what your goals are, and I make sure this stays the priority throughout the process. When it comes to values, I believe that being genuine is central. I also welcome and support alternative lifestyles of all kinds.

Finding the right mental health support should be a journey of healing, not a logistical headache. At Choose Therapy, we have redesigned the process of accessing mental health care to ensure that when you are ready to speak, you find a professional who truly hears you.

As the UK’s leading platform for clinical matching, we prioritise the “therapeutic alliance” that is the essential bond between you and your therapist that is the single greatest predictor of your recovery.

Search for a counsellor with ease

When you begin to search for a counsellor, the sheer number of directories can feel overwhelming. Choose Therapy filters through the noise, presenting you with a curated selection of professionals who are the right fit for your specific personality and goals.

Locate mental health professionals you can trust

To locate mental health professionals who meet the highest standards of clinical integrity, you need a platform that does the vetting for you. Every practitioner on Choose Therapy adheres to the code of ethics of leading professional bodies such as the BACP, UKCP, or HCPC, ensuring your safety is never compromised.

Book a therapy session in seconds

Administrative friction should never stand in the way of your wellbeing. On our platform, you can book a therapy session instantly. Our real-time scheduling removes the frustration of “phone tag,” letting you secure your first appointment while you have the momentum to start.

Find psychotherapy services that fit your life

Whether you are looking for long-term psychodynamic work or short-term solution-focused support, our tools help you find psychotherapy services tailored to your schedule, budget, and clinical requirements.

If you are wondering how to choose the right therapist, start by looking for a “specialist,” not a “generalist.” Choose Therapy provides deep-dive profiles that allow you to understand a clinician’s philosophy before you even meet. Our users often mention in Choose Therapy reviews online that our service saved them months of “trial and error.”

A common question in private care is: does health insurance cover therapy? Many of the clinicians on Choose Therapy are registered with major UK insurers such as Bupa, AXA, Aviva, and Vitality. You can filter your search specifically for these providers to ensure your care is financially sustainable and stress-free.

The first meeting is your chance to interview your therapist. Crucial questions to ask a therapist during a consultation include:

  • “What is your specific experience with my primary concerns?”
  • “What does a typical session look like with you?”
  • “How do you measure progress and handle crisis support?”

Understanding the difference between a psychologist and a psychiatrist is key to finding the right care path.

While psychiatrists are medical doctors who can prescribe medication, psychologists and counsellors focus on talk-based interventions. Choose Therapy gives you access to the full spectrum of care, allowing for a holistic approach to your recovery.

Wellness and emotional care

True wellness and emotional care go beyond the traditional therapy room. We provide the tools to help you identify the early signs of burnout or anxiety, allowing you to engage with support before a challenge becomes a crisis.

Professional counselling options

The range of professional counselling options in the UK is vast. From Person-Centred therapy to Integrative and Systemic work, Choose Therapy ensures that the diversity of modern clinical practice is at your fingertips.

Psychological help and resources

Empowerment comes through understanding. We offer psychological help and resources to demystify clinical terms and therapeutic processes, helping you become an active and informed participant in your own mental health journey.

For those seeking evidence-based, goal-oriented support for anxiety or OCD, the drive to find a cognitive behavioural therapist near me is common.

Choose Therapy hosts CBT practitioners, available for both local and national care.

Yes. In 2026, online therapy for anxiety and depression is the gold standard for accessibility. Our secure, encrypted platform ensures your sessions remain private and accessible, no matter where you are in the country.

Cost should never be a barrier to wellness. Choose Therapy is dedicated to inclusivity, listing affordable sliding scale therapists who offer reduced rates for students, low-income individuals, and those on universal credit.

Choose Therapy offers the flexibility of high-definition remote care or local clinic options to suit your lifestyle and comfort levels.
