Debbie Fowkes

Hi, my name’s Debbie. I am a trainee counsellor currently in the second year of a BSc (Hons) in Counselling and Psychotherapy, and a student member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP). My therapeutic approach is humanistic and integrative, which means I will draw from a range of modalities to meet you as a unique individual, with warmth, empathy, and respect for your lived experience. My work is grounded in the belief that we all have the capacity for growth and healing when offered the right conditions—genuine connection, acceptance, and a safe, non-judgemental space. I aim to walk alongside you as you explore your thoughts, feelings, and experiences, helping you to make sense of your inner world and move towards greater self-understanding and empowerment. Before training as a counsellor, I spent 10 years in pastoral roles within Further Education, supporting young people through various transitions and difficulties. I have additional training in bereavement support, and both personal and professional experience of disability and long-term health conditions. These experiences have deepened my sensitivity to the complexities of living with chronic illness, understanding the physical and emotional impact these can have on daily life. I am LGBTQIA+ affirmative and committed to creating an inclusive, compassionate space for all identities and backgrounds. I offer a collaborative, attuned therapeutic relationship where we can work together to help you navigate life’s challenges, develop greater self-awareness, and move towards the changes you wish to make. If you are looking for a space to be heard, understood and accepted, do get in touch. I look forward to hearing from you.
